Strokes Rowers, Coxswains and Parents:

The Oakland Strokes are looking forward to a great spring racing season.
Following is a brief update on the upcoming races involving travel: 

March 3--Pacific Novice Invitational at Lake Merced (Novice Teams)

            Buses leave promptly at 5:30 a.m.  Please arrive between 5:20
and 5:25 a.m.

Buses for the Pacific Novice Invitational at Lake Merced in San Francisco
will leave from the Jack London Aquatic Center boathouse promptly at 5:30
am. Please arrive between 5:20 and 5:25 am. Rowers will want to bring a
water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses as well as a bag lunch to
supplement the race day food. Also, please bring plenty of warm clothes to
layer on if it happens to be cold, wet and/or foggy. The races should
finish mid-afternoon and the buses will return to the JLAC boathouse at
around 5:00 pm to unload the boats. Directions to Lake Merced can be

March 30 - April 1--San Diego Crew Classic (Select Varsity)

            Travel details will be supplied by the Coaches

Select members of the Men's and Women's varsity teams will travel to San
Diego for the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic. The selected rowers will
be notified by their coaches in mid-March and will receive travel details at
that time. The selected rowers will depart Oakland Airport for San Diego on
Friday, March 30 on Southwest Airlines flight 2841 at 8:30 am and return on
Southwest Airlines flight 2706 on Sunday, April 1 arriving at 6:45 pm. The
team hotel will be the Bahia Resort on San Diego's Mission Bay.  Travel
expenses will be due on Friday, March 23. 

There are a few air tickets available to parents who want to travel on the
team flights and a few extra rooms in our hotel block at the Bahia Hotel.
If you are interested in traveling with the team or staying in the team
hotel, please contact me as soon as possible at travel@oaklandstrokes.org.

April 14 - 15--Windemere Regatta at Redwood Shores (Select Varsity)

Travel details will be supplied by the Coaches 

Select members of the Men's and Women's varsity teams will compete in
Windemere Regatta at Redwood Shores.  The teams will travel by carpools to
the regatta. Departure times and logistics will be provided to the selected
rowers in advance of the event. Rowers will want to bring a water bottle,
sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses as well as a bag lunch to supplement the
race day food.  Parent volunteers are needed to drive in the carpool to and
from the race.  If you can drive a carpool, please contact me at
travel@oaklandstrokes.org.   

April 15--League Race Lake Natoma (Varsity 3V and 4V and Novice Teams)

            Buses leave at 5:00 a.m.  Plan to arrive between 4:50 and 4:55
a.m.

Buses for the league race hosted by Capital Crew at Lake Natoma will leave
the boathouse promptly at 5:00 am. Please arrive between 4:50 and 4:55 am.
Rowers will want to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses
as well as a bag lunch to supplement the race day food. The races should
finish by noon and the buses will depart Sacramento at 12:30 pm. The team
should arrive back at the boathouse between 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm and will

April 27 - 29--Long Beach Junior Regatta, Long Beach, CA (All Team)

            Buses leave at 5:00 a.m.  Plan to arrive between 4:50 and 4:55
a.m.

All teams will participate in the Long Beach Junior Regatta in Long Beach,
CA. The team will travel by bus to Long Beach and will depart from the JLAC
boathouse at 5:00 am on Friday, April 27. The team hotel will be the Best
Western Golden Sails Hotel near the race course. After the final races on
Sunday, the team will return by bus to Oakland with an evening arrival
between 9:00 and 11:00 pm. We have a few extra rooms in our hotel block,
so if you are planning to travel to the Long Beach Regatta, please e-mail
<mailto:travel@oaklandstrokes.org> travel@oaklandstrokes.org if you are
interested in a room for Friday and Saturday evenings. Long Beach Junior
Regatta details can be found at

May 6--League Race Lake Natoma (All Team)

a.m.

May 18 - 20 Southwest Regional Junior Rowing Association Championships, Lake
Natoma (All Team)

            Buses leave at 10:00 a.m.  Plan to arrive between 9:50 and 9:55
a.m.

The team will depart by bus for the SWRJRA Championships on Friday, May 18
promptly at 10:00 am. Please arrive at the boathouse between 9:50 and 9:55
am. The Hawthorn Suites hotel at Lake Natoma will be the Strokes team hotel
for this event. We have reserved the entire hotel for the weekend at a daily
rate of $119 plus taxes. The rate includes a full breakfast and all rooms
have a king bed and a sofa bed that can accommodate two adults and two
children. First preference for the extra rooms will be given to chaperone
volunteers.  The first 10 families to respond requesting a room for both
Friday and Saturday nights will be guaranteed a room at the team hotel that
is a five minute walk from Lake Natoma. After the first 10 rooms have been
assigned, I will maintain a list in case any rooms become available later.
Please send your request to travel@oaklandstrokes.org and I will respond
with details. All squads will meet on Monday, May 21 at 4:00 pm to unload
the boats and wrap up the spring season.

Sails Hotel near the race course.&nbsp; After the final races on Sunday, =

with an evening arrival between 9:00 and 11:00 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp; We have a =

Strokes team hotel for this event. We have reserved the entire hotel for =

weekend at a daily rate of $119 plus taxes. The rate includes a full =
breakfast
and all rooms have a king bed and a sofa bed that can accommodate two =
adults
and two children. First preference for the extra rooms will be given to
chaperone volunteers.&nbsp; The first 10 families to respond requesting =
a room
for both Friday and Saturday =
nights
will be guaranteed a room at the team hotel that is a five minute walk =
