Oakland Strokes  eNews  November 2007

Holiday Race. Date changed to Sunday
Dec 2.  8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jack London
 Aquatic Center.=20
Serra High, Berkeley High and JLAC will be joining us.  Athletes will need =
to
be at the boathouse around 7:00 a.m. The
coaches will be providing specific information to your athletes.

Boathouse Area Clean-Up. Saturday Dec 1. We are asking that all
Strokes stay after practice--to no
later than 11am--to help clean up the boathouse area and clean the viewing =
dock
and railing of bird droppings. This is where the parents and guests will be
viewing the Holiday Race the next morning. If everyone pitches in it should=
 go
quickly. Snacks will be provided around 10 am for those who stay to help cl=
ean
up. We also would like any willing parents to
come at around 9:45 to help direct/supervise the cleanup. Parent
volunteers--please contact your Team Parent to let them know if you will be

Lost and Found. For parents who
come to help with the cleanup, this would be a good time to have your athle=

check the lost and found to retrieve any lost sweatshirts, pants, shoes, ha=
ts,
etc. All parents --please remind your athletes to check the lost and found.

Ergathon =96 Saturday, January 12  Our major
fundraiser of the year is coming up. Please be on the look-out for addition=
al information
on the very important event. Support Strokes! We will be mailing informatio=
n to
OS families and alumni early December.  We hope to have a PayPal option for
accepting donations. =20

Welcome New Co-President --  Annie Mudge

Annie Mudge (WV Alison Mittelberger) will be taking over from
Deb Castles, who had graciously stepped into an unexpected third year as
co-president. Annie shares the President position with Mary Williams, who i=
s in
her second year in the job.  Please join us in welcoming Annie and thanking=
 her
for her efforts!

Registration Coordinator Needed
Pam Zitterman has done an admirable job of collecting and organizing regist=
ration forms and fees. Her daughter will be graduating this spring. We are =
looking for several people to take on various aspects of the registration j=
ob for next year. Don't miss this opportunity to shadow Pam as she processe=
s Spring registration starting the end of December. If you would like to kn=

Update on New Boathouse =20

We are very close to completing a 20 year lease with the
East Bay Regional Park District on the new Boathouse.  The agreement will a=
llow
us to build a new Strokes dock and boathouse  at EBRPD=92s Martin Luther Ki=
ng Jr.
Regional Shoreline (near High Street in Oakland).
It will include boat & equipment storage, erg room and team meeting space
next to a new East Bay Regional Parks building that would provide bathrooms=
,
meeting rooms and office space.  The agreement includes provisions for the
Strokes to provide an outreach program to help East Oakland
kids discover rowing through summer camps and recreational programs.  We wi=
ll
begin fundraising for this outreach program during this year=92s Ergathon. =
