Parents,
First, I would like to thank all the parents who got involved this weekend
with the barbeque. I thought the food was great and the best part was all
the parents hanging around eating sausages and enjoying themselves. This is
what it is about. Our kids love having you there, but you need to have fun
being there as well. I hope we can barbeque at every regatta. But we can't
do it without the help of the parents
Just a note: You are not there to serve the kids, but to facilitate. The
athletes are capable young kids who are learning to be responsible and need
us there to continue to guide them in their decision making to pick up trash
and help move items from one location to another for the benefit of all.
The Oakland Strokes goes to Sacramento again on May 8th (after school/work)
and then we come home on Sunday. Handling 150 high school kids with meals,
transportation and rowing is a huge endeavor. We can only bring the "whole"
team because our parents have always been such a huge help to all of us.
We need more chaperones. We are trying to organize it so the chaperones
will be in charge of specific athletes and tasks. It is not a hard job, but
a fun one to watch your children interact with their peers and watch them
face the challenges they have put before themselves by working so hard all
year.
If you can chaperone, Thursday night, or even starting Friday night through
the weekend, we would really enjoy having you be a part of an amazing and
stimulating event.
