Hi Parents,
Spring season is upon us and we will be attending some very exciting
races. However, team travel is only made possible with the help and
participation of parent chaperones, food volunteers, etc. We are
particularly needing chaperones for the upcoming season. I know that
some of you have already indicated a willingness to chaperone various
races. EVEN IF YOU have already told me, please tell me again, exactly
WHICH races you can help with, and which team your rower is on.
There are limited numbers of hotel rooms available at races for non-
chaperoning parents, but of course, chaperones have priority. If you
would like a hotel room and are NOT volunteering to chaperone, let me
know that too and I will put your name on a list for the team hotel. I
will contact you letting you know if you have a reservation and how
much it will cost.
San Diego Crew Classic: April 4-6th, 2008
This one is a bit tricky because it the coaches have not yet
determined exactly who will be participating in this race. We will
have six boats - Womens Varsity, Womens JV, Womens Lightweight, Mens
Varsity, Mens JV, Mens Lightweight and POSSIBLY two "spare" rowers for
the mens' and womens' teams. (this is not definite) Right now we have
enough womens' chaperones but we still need two more mens'
chaperones. If you can chaperone the mens' team, PLEASE let me know
ASAP. Also let me know if you are not chaperoning but would like a
room at the hotel, which is the Dana at Mission Point. (www.thedana.com)
The team will be FLYING to San Diego on April 4th, 9am from Oakland
via Southwest Airlines. All chaperones must fly on the plane with the
team and be willing to drive a 15 seat van, which will meet us at the
airport.
Long Beach Junior Regatta: April 18-20, 2008
This is an ALL-TEAM race so we need all hands on deck for chaperoning.
The team will be traveling to Long Beach via bus (leaving 5am Friday,
April 18th) and chaperones may either ride on the bus or fly down and
meet the team there. Please let me know what team your rower is on,
and if you will be flying, driving yourself, or taking the team bus.
Non-chaperoning parents may also request rooms at the team hotel
(Seaport Marina). They will be assigned on a first-come, first -served
basis.
Southwest Junior Regional Championships ("CJ's) Lake Natoma (near
Sacramento) - THURSDAY May 8th-Sunday May 11th
The team will travel by bus on Thursday afternoon, and stay at Lake
Natoma Thurs-Sunday. We need chaperones for ALL TEAMS once again,
starting Thursday evening. Please let me know if you can do this. We
need 8-10 chaperones to stay with the team at Hawthorne Suites and
Days Inn, both within walking distance of the race.
For non-chaperoning parents, group reservations can be had at Lake
Natoma Inn 1-888-220-5453 or Larkspur Landing in Folsom (916)
355-1616. For both, say that you are with the group "OAKLAND STROKES
PARENTS."
Thanks everyone for making Oakland Strokes such a great team! GO
STROKES!
