A message to all members of Go Strokes!
Middle School and High School Students=E2=80=94Who wants to go to =
Germany?

Age 14 to 16 , 17 year olds are accepted, but no Current Seniors.
We will be taking up to 30 people
There will be a 6 to one ration =E2=80=93 kids to coaches.

This is a cultural exchange where the Oakland Strokes rowers will be =
going to Germany, to a town called Osnabruck. There is a rowing program =
there that has done exchanges with another club in the region for over =
20 years. Beth coached for that other team during the first exchange =
and now Oakland has been offered the opportunity to continue this =
tradition.

The tentative plan is as follows:

Travel will take place for 3 to 3.5 weeks sometime the end of july =
beginning of August.
=20
Upon arrival in Germany, the rowers will meet their host families and =
spend a day or two getting tours of the city and learning about the =
rowing program. Then a 4 or 5 day trip will be planned where the group =
will travel to some other cities (exact locations to be determined) the =
group will travel by train and stay in youth hostels when not staying in =
Osnabruck.

Upon returning to Osnabruck, there will be a 7 day rowing tour down the =
Moselle river to the Rhine river. This is the highlight of the trip. =
For 7 days the kids will row side by side with the German team in mixed =
boats (these are touring boats). Down the river. The athletes will =
sleep in different boathouses every night and there is a whole adult =
crew that cooks and feeds the rowers 3 meals a day. They are met at =
every Loch and the kids learn tons about the culture and the beautiful =
countryside.

Upon completing the tour, the rowers will return to Osnabruck and stay =
with their german host families for a few days and attend school at =
least one day. During this time, if the rowers are not going to go to =
school, we will take them on day trips.

Once we leave the families, we will either go to Berlin or Munich for a =
few more days of sightseeing before heading for the airport to go home.

The details of the trip will be firmed up once we know how many people =
are interested in going. The past few years the cost of the three week =
trip was about $3,500. This is probably pretty accurate, but again =
exact cost will depend on numbers of people going and setting the exact =
itinerary.
